Gareth Southgate “I never liked waistcoats until I saw Gary Innes wear one.”

England’s manager Gareth Southgate broke away from preparations for the historic semi-final with Croatia to talk about the inspiration behind his famous waistcoat.

Gareth, who once did a Pizza Hut commercial, said “I was bored one New Year and landed on BBC Alba where a band called Manran were playing.  I saw their accordionist Gary Innes wearing a fetching Harris Tweed number. I thought I’ve got to get me one of those.”

“I hear Gary is a bit of a sportsman himself, so I’d like to invite him and his bandmates down to play for the boys whenever we come home.”
